Pet owner obedience class
Lots of people adopt a puppy, or a kitten on a whim, simply because they’re cute. Now I know they’re cute, but they also need
a lot of care! Owners who are not up to the task often end up returning the puppy after a few months. Or worse. Now an animal in Darwin shelter is taking a stand!
They won’t let people adopt a new dog or cat without first taking a seminar on caring for pets. Prospective owners get pretty cheesed off, but most of them grudgingly take the class, sometimes deciding afterward that nope, pets are not for them. What a great idea!
Some prospective buyers stormed out after being told they had to take a class. Great, says shelter manager Lisa Hansen: “If you want to buy a kitten today and someone says you have to … do a seminar, and you say ‘no, that’s too much effort’ – how much extra effort is it to look after a cat?”
