I thought we were trundling along nicely raising a pup, but staying in a hotel for the past week or so has set us back considerably. In the hotel, she cried so loudly that a kindly man thought we were torturing the poor beast and asked the manager to check!

They let her out of her crate, fed her treats and she hasn’t been the same again. I don’t blame them for letting her out of the crate (well, maybe a little), but going to a hotel with a young pup is just hard, because it certainly doesn’t help housebreaking them. Also, the constant well meant advise of other guests got on my nerves!

Here’s a video about crate training a puppy by experts:

Last night we put her in the crate and she screamed. For hours. She’d let up for a while and then start over again. At 4 in the morning we were so fed up, we let her out. I know, I know, it was a moment of weakness, but it was either that or throttle her, and I think we made the right call ;) .

I think that’s why the KGB wrenches people they want to question from their warm beds at 4 or 5 in the morning: as humans we are at our most vulnerable around that time. As soon as she got out of her bench, Madoff went to sleep immediately (BITCH! Literally!)(in Spanish that’s una zorra, btw). We got some sleep, but she did ‘eleminate’ in the house. I took her outside and she eliminated again, so that’s ok. But PFFFFFFF. This puppy stuff is hard work. Anyway, I read some more posts on the web and it’s very common for pups to be like that, apparently, it can take up to three months to housebreak a pup. Did I say PFFFFFF already?

Why do puppies cry? And how to stop them!

Posted by: admin   in whining puppy

Puppies cry a lot and here´s how to stop them!

One of the things you always have to remember is that your pup is just a baby. It´s been yanked out from it´s comfy nest, away from brothers and sisters to play with and its mom.

Wouldn´t you cry, if all of a sudden you were left alone in the cold?

There´s a lot you can do to make a pup stop crying, but remember, just like a human baby, sometimes they just cry for no apparent reason!

First, check if puppy needs to go potty! If it doesn´t, here are

6 Tips to stop a puppy from whining

1. Don’t yell at your puppy! It won´t help, and just make him scared.

2. Make some noise
Noise does help though, so get yourself a ticking clock and put it near the puppy´s bed. It will think it’s mother is still there and just sleep all night.

If you can sleep through it, you could also switch on the tv or an audio book. An audio recording of Dan Brown reading Angels and Demons sent us all blissfully asleep in minutes!

3. Also sticking your fingers in the crate and making soothing noises can help.

4. Put a Sweater with your smell in its cage.

After all, you´re its momma now!

5. A hot water bottle, so it´s not cold. Especially with tiny skinny dogs, like chiahuahuas, they can get cold very easily. So a hot water bottle for him to snuggle up to will definitely help. More snuggling: a stuffed animal and lots of soft toys.

6. Never yell (I know, that was rule one as well, but it is VERY important!) It can be hard, but when you get annoyed just remember: dogs don´t do this stuff to annoy you, this is a baby. Don´t hit the crate or frighten it in any way, it´ll only set him back and make him afraid of you!
