Air travel is extremely stressfull for pets. Hell, I don´t much like to fly myself! Imagine if you have no idea what´s going on! There are ways to make it easier on all those involved though!
Getting on the plane with your dog
Your dog needs a seperate reservation. An airplane is a bit like a bus these days, but still, they need a heads up if you want to bring your pet. Check whether there is room and what the airline´s regulations are.
If your dog is small enough to fit into a soft carrier (there are some really cute ones out there these days!) and fit under your seat, (usually up to 6kg or about 12 pounds) you can usually bring it into the cabin with you. She can´t go of on a wander on her own though!
If she´s too big for a carry on bag, she´ll have to go in a crate and be checked in as excess bagage. You might want to take a direct flight though, because if your pup gets lost, she won´t like it!

The Crate
If your dog´s never been crated or spent any time in the soft carrier, you should practice. Let her get familiar with the crate, feed her in the crate for a couple of days, extending her stay a bit every time. Make it a happy place, maybe put in an old sweater that has your scent and lots of toys.
